The Philadelphia's Michelin Guide
Philadelphia earned its first Michelin Guide selection in October 2024, joining a select group of American cities with official Michelin recognition. The inaugural list included one starred restaurant, nine Bib Gourmands (outstanding food at moderate prices), and over 60 recommended restaurants across the city. For a food city that's always punched above its weight, the recognition was overdue — and the restaurants on this list prove why.
Zahav earned Philadelphia's only Michelin star in 2024, cementing Michael Solomonov's modern Israeli restaurant as one of America's best. The hummus — silky, warm, impossibly smooth — is worth the trip alone. But it's the whole experience: laffa bread from the taboon oven, the salatim spread, lamb shoulder for the table, and a wine list that spans the Levant.
Also a James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Restaurant. If you're celebrating anything — anniversary, birthday, engagement — this is the place. Book well in advance.
Nok Suntaranon's Thai restaurant near the Italian Market is the kind of place that makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about Thai food in America. The flavors are bold, balanced, and deeply authentic — southern Thai curries, larb, and som tum that rival anything in Bangkok. Tiny space, huge flavors.
Impossible to get a reservation but worth every attempt. Try Resy at random times — cancellations drop without warning. Tuesday and Wednesday nights are your best bet.
Many of Philadelphia's best Michelin-recognized restaurants are BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle). Laurel, Fond, and Will are all BYOB — bring a great bottle of wine and save significantly on what would otherwise be a $200+ dinner.
Greg Vernick's Rittenhouse corner restaurant was one of nine Bib Gourmand picks — Michelin's recognition of outstanding value. The cooking is seasonal, technique-driven American food that manages to be both refined and unfussy. The toast course (yes, just toast) is famously one of the best things you'll eat in the city.
A creative small-plates restaurant with one of the best cocktail programs in the city. The menu changes constantly, driven by whatever looks best at the market. The space is moody, intimate, and perfect for a date. Go for the tasting menu at the bar if you can't get a table — it's a completely different (and arguably better) experience.
A stunning Lebanese restaurant in Fishtown with a garden dining room that feels like Beirut. The mezze spread is one of the best shared dining experiences in the city — hummus, baba ganoush, fattoush, grilled halloumi, and kebabs. Weekend brunch is legendary (and packed). The attached market sells provisions to recreate the experience at home.
One Michelin Star means "high-quality cooking, worth a stop." Bib Gourmand means "exceptionally good food at moderate prices." Recommended means the inspectors think it's worth your time. All three are genuine recognition — Philadelphia should be proud of the full list.
