Fishtown

Philadelphia's most eclectic shopping corridor runs for six blocks through one of the city's most culturally vibrant neighborhoods. Vintage clothing, independent record stores, tattoo studios, galleries, and one-of-a-kind boutiques define a street that's been countercultural since the 1960s.

Shopping Fishtown

Fishtown is the trendiest neighborhood in Philadelphia right now, and the retail scene reflects it. Frankford Avenue — the main commercial strip — is packed with vintage shops, record stores, artisan food makers, tattoo studios, and independent boutiques. It's where Philadelphia's creative class actually spends its money.

The main shopping corridor runs along Frankford Avenue from Girard Avenue north to York Street, with smaller clusters on Front Street and East Girard. The neighborhood is a mix of old-school working-class Fishtown (this used to be a fishing village) and the new creative economy that moved in over the last 15 years.

Curation Over Volume

What Fishtown does best is curation. The shops here are small, carefully edited, and reflect strong points of view. You won't find the biggest selection of anything, but what you find will be the best of its kind. This is especially true for vintage, records, and home goods.

💡 Weekend Strategy

Saturday afternoon is peak Fishtown — the shops are all open, the coffee roasters are buzzing, and you can walk the whole Frankford Avenue corridor in a couple of hours. Sunday is slightly quieter but still good. Most shops close Monday and Tuesday, so avoid those days.

Getting There

Take the Market-Frankford Line to the Girard stop. You'll exit right at the foot of Frankford Avenue. From there, it's a walkable strip up to about Berks Street (10–15 minutes) before the shopping gets sparser. Street parking is free and usually available on side streets.

🍕 Post-Shopping

Fishtown has some of Philly's best food. End your shopping day at Pizzeria Beddia (possibly the best pizza in the city), Suraya (stunning Lebanese), or Kensington Quarters (whole-animal butcher and restaurant). All three are on or just off Frankford Avenue.
