Pick Your Hotel by Where You'll Spend Saturday

Rittenhouse Row runs along Walnut Street from Broad to 20th, so the right hotel depends on where your Saturday starts. The stores you'll visit sit about five blocks apart, from Joan Shepp at 1905 Walnut at the west end to Suitsupply at 1601 Locust St and Butcher and Singer at 1500 Walnut at the east end. Any room within a few blocks of the Square puts all of that within a short walk. Every address below is a few minutes on foot from the Square.

This guide doesn't name specific hotels. We only publish properties we've verified, and none are on our checked list for this district. What we can give you is a way to choose: decide which stretch of Walnut you want at your door, then book within a few blocks of it. A Friday-to-Sunday trip is mostly about not carrying bags farther than you have to.

The West End: 19th to 20th Street

A room near the Square's west side suits you if your plan starts with Joan Shepp (1905 Walnut St), the district's standout independent. It's your most considered purchase of the weekend, so you want to reach it rested. From there it's a short walk east to Anthropologie (1801 Walnut St) and a turn onto Chestnut for Boyds Philadelphia (1818 Chestnut St), the city's definitive men's clothier.

The tradeoff is that you're furthest from the east end, where Suitsupply and Aesop sit. That's fine if you work west-to-east and your hotel is the last stop of the day, not the first.

Friday Arrival Strategy

Drop your bags and walk the Row on Friday evening, without buying anything. Note what you want, then return Saturday with a short list. It stops you from buying the first thing you see and gets Joan Shepp's window out of your head before you've seen the other stores.

The Middle: 17th and 18th Street

This is the densest stretch for the chain-brand shopper. Tiffany & Co. (1715 Walnut St), J.Crew (1719 Walnut St), Vince (1701 Walnut St), Madewell (1729 Walnut St), lululemon (1720 Walnut St), and Athleta (1722 Walnut St) are all within about a block of each other. Lagos (1735 Walnut St), the Philadelphia-founded jewelry brand, is here too. Around the corner on Chestnut are Sephora (1714 Chestnut St) and Di Bruno Bros. (1730 Chestnut St).

If you only want to walk out your door and be shopping, a hotel near 17th or 18th is the most efficient base. It's also the best place for midday drop-offs: you can dump a few bags and be back out in twenty minutes.

Between 17th and 18th, Walnut Street packs in more flagships than any other block on the Row.
"Book for the block you'll shop most, not the block with the best view."

The East End: 15th to 16th Street

East of 16th, the Row gets quieter and more specific. Suitsupply (1601 Locust St), Warby Parker (1523 Walnut St), and Aesop (1528 Walnut St) are close together. Farther west are Rag & Bone (1601 Walnut St), the Apple Store Walnut Street (1607 Walnut St), Theory (1616 Walnut St), Gorjana (1630 Walnut St), and Free People (1632 Walnut St). It's a good base for a trip built around clothes and essentials, not luxury browsing.

The east end also puts you closer to Broad Street and Center City transit, which matters if you're arriving by train and want to keep a car out of it. Walking west to the Square takes about ten minutes, so you can still reach Joan Shepp on foot.

Sunday Planning

Don't assume every store keeps the same Sunday hours. Check the specific stores you want before you build Sunday around them. Leave Sunday for the stores you can visit quickly, and keep the larger decisions for Saturday.

Where to Eat Between Bags

Eating near the Square is easy, and several Michelin-listed options sit close to the Walnut Street spine. Here are the ones closest to the shopping.

Lunch Break
Dizengoff · 1625 Sansom St

A Michelin Bib Gourmand pick, a block off Walnut in the middle of the shopping run. It works as a quick midday stop between the east and west halves of the Row.

Saturday Dinner
Parc · 227 S 18th St

The French brasserie on the Square itself. It's a natural place to end a Saturday when your feet are tired and your bags are waiting back at the hotel.

Special Occasion
Her Place Supper Club · 1740 Sansom St

A Michelin-starred option a short walk from the middle of the Row. If the weekend is a celebration, book it ahead of your trip.

West End Option
Vernick Food & Drink · 2031 Walnut St

Michelin-recommended and just past the west end of the Row. It's useful if you've based yourself near 19th or 20th and want to eat close to your hotel after Joan Shepp.
